Security Enhancement

With every new installation, WordPress Toolkit automatically applies all critical security measures recommended by WordPress experts. You can also specify and implement additional security measures, from prohibiting the execution of PHP scripts in certain directories to disabling pingbacks, blocking .htaccess and .htpasswd files, protecting against bots, and much more.

Smart Updates

Before performing core, theme, or plugin updates, WordPress Toolkit creates a temporary clone of the website in a secure environment to ensure compatibility and security. If updates are deemed safe, they are applied to the live website. Otherwise, you are provided with a side-by-side comparison and a report of identified issues with the choice to apply or decline updates.

Plugin Blacklist

Poorly developed or unsupported plugins can serve as entry points for attackers. For this reason, WordPress Toolkit has an integrated blacklist for server administrators to prevent the installation of specified plugins. Any plugin added to this list will no longer be installed via WordPress Toolkit; if it is installed by other means, WordPress Toolkit automatically removes it.

Kernel Checksum Verification

Some types of malware are designed to infect core WordPress .php files. By using MD5 checksums, the WordPress Toolkit can verify the integrity of these files and notify you of any anomalies. These files can then be replaced with the original files without reinstalling WordPress. Certain installation-specific files are excluded from this feature, including index.php and wp-config.php.

Vulnerability Detection

While updating themes and plugins in theory isn't complicated, the main issue lies in timely awareness of existing vulnerabilities. By using a constantly updated vulnerability database provided by the Patchstack service, the WordPress Toolkit tracks all sites (at 30-minute intervals) and notifies you within the application and via email, with the option to automatically update or disable vulnerable assets.

Virtual Patching

Addressing any plugin or theme vulnerability involves internal risks – updating to an unverified version could disrupt your site's functionality, and disabling a compromised asset isn't always a feasible option. With voluntary consent, the WordPress Toolkit can apply a virtual patch to the theme or plugin. This temporary solution gives you time to address the issue, with the patch automatically reverted after the fix is applied.
